A Calm Heart Makes Kind Choices
Good morning, little friends!
The sun was shining over the Lotus Bamboo Forest as Lumo and Mei walked through the beautiful garden.
Butterflies floated from flower to flower, and the air smelled sweet with blooming lotus blossoms.
“Look, Mei!” Lumo exclaimed. “That pink flower is the prettiest one I’ve ever seen!”
“It really is!” Mei smiled.
The two friends hurried toward the flower.
Just as Lumo reached out to admire it…
Snip!
Mei gently picked the flower.
Lumo stopped in his tracks.
His heart felt heavy.
“I wanted that flower,” he thought.
He crossed his arms.
He wanted to shout,
“That’s not fair!”
He wanted to stomp away.
For a moment, Lumo felt angry and disappointed.
Then he remembered something
Mama Lin always told him:
“Big feelings are okay. What matters is what we choose to do with them.”
Lumo closed his eyes.
He took one slow, deep breath.
Then another.
His angry feelings became a little smaller.
When he opened his eyes, he looked at Mei.
“I was feeling upset because I wanted that flower too,” Lumo said honestly.
Mei looked surprised.
“Oh, Lumo… I didn’t know. I wasn’t trying to hurt your feelings.”
She smiled kindly and handed him the flower.
“We can enjoy it together.”
Lumo smiled back and gently shook his head.
“Thank you, Mei, but I think it looks happiest growing right here in the garden.”
Together, they carefully placed the flower back where it belonged and admired its beauty.
The flower stayed in the sunshine…
And so did their friendship.
